　　当年“北京申奥”是最响亮的口号。因此“申奥”题材节目自然登上了春晚。小品《咱也试一把》、歌曲《大家一起来》都反映了国人对北京申奥的激情。
　　语言类节目总体水准较高，有很强的时代感。姜昆相声《踩脚》情节荒诞、信息量大，直击社会热点，令人回味；黄宏、林永健的小品《家有老爸》反映了当今“空巢家庭”中的老年人生活现状，告诉我们做子女的要更多地在精神层面去关心父母；小品《动物运动会》与杂技相结合，幽默搞笑，尤其特别受年轻观众的欢迎。小品《红娘》、相声《戏迷》等虽然本身不是戏曲类节目，但在内容中则加入了诸多戏曲元素，是戏曲类节目的一个创新点。
　　“千斤组合”在0点报时之前压轴出场，是本届春晚的一个亮点。5位“重量级”歌手一同唱起一曲现代版《康定情歌》，令人捧腹。据导演表示，这个组合被称为本届春晚的“秘密武器”。
　　“大忽悠”则是本届春晚的流行语。这个名词经过赵本山在《卖拐》中的演绎，一下子成了骗子的代名词。一个文艺工作者，对于社会是要有一些责任感的，在众多小品演员中，赵本山无疑是最能为老百姓振臂呼喊的人，窥《卖拐》一斑即可见全豹。也就是从2001开始，元宵晚会改为我最喜欢的春节联欢晚会节目评选揭晓晚会。
