Thisapocalypticparablecarrieswithinitaclearechoofthe1968invasionofCzechoslovakia.ThisunforgivingexplorationoftheCzechmentalitytellsthetaleofatroupeofwanderingactorswhoperformapassionplayinsomeunnamedvillage.Fearofsomeunknowndangerbreaksoutinthevillage,whichiscutofffromthesurroundingworld.Stupidity,selfishnessandaggressivenessthencometothesurfaceinthissocietyunderthreat.Inthefilm'skeyscene,awomanisrapedbytheself-styledleader.ZdenukMahler,whowouldlaterworkonForman'sexaminationMozartAmadeus,workedonthescripteee ThedirectorEvaldSchorm(1929-1988)wasoneofthemostoriginalmembersoftheCzech"NewWave".Duringthe"normalization"era,Schormspentmanyyearsunabletodirect.Hislastfilm,KillingwithKindness(1988)wasonlymadeinthetwilightyearsofCommunism.Duringthatperiodwhenhewasunabletodirectfilms,hebecameanoutstandingstagedirector.Hedirectedgroundbreakingproductionsatthe"Nazábradlí"TheaterandLaternaMagika.
