StuartGordon,consideredamasterofthehorrorgenrethankstoclassicslikeRe-AnimatorandDagon,decidestodoadifferentmoveinthisstrangetriptohumanmoralseee "KingoftheAnts"isaboutaregularguy,SeanCrawley(newcomerChrisMcKenna),amanwithoutanyaspirationwhojustliveinhisapartmentdoingthenecessaryjobtolivetothenextday.InoneofhisjobshemeetsDuke(GeargeWendt),whointroducesSeantohisboss,RayMatthews(playedbyDanielBaldwin).RayhiresSeanasaspy,andordershimtofollowEricGatlin(RoyLivingstone),anaccountantwhohasbeeninvestigatingRay'scompany.ProblemsstartwhenRay,whiledrunk,ordersSeantokillEric.Andhedoesit.ThingsgowrongwhenRaydecidestomakeSeandisappeardestroyinghismindwithviolentpunishmentandhumiliation. FromthepointwhereSeankillsEric,wegointhesameboatwithhim,ashegoesthroughadownwardspiralofhumandegradation,travelingfromguilt,toconfusionandfinallytohisrebirth,inastatewherehumanity,moralsandvaluesarenotimportantanymore.ChrisMcKennaactingisveryimportantbecausehemanagestobelikableevenwhenheispartofgruesomeacts,bothasvictimand/orcriminal.Hehasthatlookofinnocencethathidesadarksideandhemanagestocarrythefilm. ThesupportcastalsoincludesKariWuhrer,asEric'swidowwhoalsobecomesacentralpartofSean'striptohell.Shegivesafineperformance,althoughit'sobviousthatSeanisthemaincharacter.HeisthemostdevelopedofallandMcKenna'sperformanceisuptothechallenge. Thefilmhasverydisturbingimagesofviolence,andwhileitmaynotbeasgraphicas"KillBill"forexample,thestrengthoftheviolenceisinthelackofhumanitythatthecharactermanifest.Heismorethananantinthisworld.Heistheking. StuartGordonhasmanagedtocreateafilmthat,whilemaybeit'snotoneofhisbestefforts;it'sverywelldone,hasaVERYinterestingstorytotell,andmanagestocapturetheattentioneverysecondofit.
